Certible® is authorised by the TMMi® Foundation as exam provider for the TMMi Professional and TMMi Test Process Improver Certifications.
The TMMi Professional certification is aimed at anyone involved in using the TMMi model.
This includes people in roles such as test process improvers, test consultants, TMMi (lead-)assessors, business stakeholders, test managers, and members of a Test Process Group.
TMMi Professionals are individuals who have demonstrated an understanding of the TMMi model and its application to a standard defined in the TMMi Professional syllabus. In order to illustrate this, candidates must pass a formal exam.
The TMMi Professional exam is comprised of 40 multiple-choice questions. Each correctly answered question is worth one point. A score of at least 65% (26 or more points) is required to pass.
Preparing for the TMMi Professional Exam
There is no formal requirement to attend a preparatory course before taking the TMMi Professional exam. If you are interested in taking a course, the TMMi Foundation recommends courses conducted by TMMi Professional recognized training providers. All currently recognised TMMi Professional Training Providers are listed by the TMMi Foundation
Whether or not you choose to attend a preparatory course, a good place to begin preparing for the TMMi Professional exam is the TMMi Foundation’s Documents Page. This contains the latest versions of the TMMi Model, syllabus and a sample exam paper.
For those looking for a more in-depth preparation for the exam and familiarisation with TMMi and its application, there are some books officially endorsed by TMMi. A relatively compact overview is offered in The Little TMMI, Objective-Driven Test Process Improvement by Erik van Veenendaal and Jan Jaap Cannegieter, available in English, Dutch and Chinese.
For a more comprehensive overview, also consider the more extensive book Test Maturity Model integration TMMi (Guidelines for Test Process Improvement), by Erik van Veenendaal and Brian Wells (available in English only).
The TMMi Career Path
The TMMi model looks at software testing at different maturity levels, with the starting assumption that all organizations start at TMMi level 1 of the maturity ladder. The more mature an organization’s testing practices, the higher level of maturity the organization fullfils.
The TMMi Professional qualification is aimed at anyone involved in using the TMMi model. This includes people in roles such as as test process improvers, test consultants, TMMi (lead-)assessors, business stakeholders, test managers, and members of a Test Process Group. TMMi Professionals are individuals who have demonstrated an understanding of the TMMi model and its application to a standard defined in the TMMi Professional syllabus. In order to illustrate this, candidates must pass a formal exam.
Organizations seeking to improve their level of test maturity using the TMMi Model depend on experienced and qualified individuals to effectively assess and facilitate test improvement. The expectation is that a certified TMMi Test Process Improver will be able to provide thorough support within their organization or project to initiate, implement, and support TMMi based improvements to testing such that business value is provided to sponsors and stakeholders.
For those who prefer to take exams in person Certible offers a number of alternatives to remote exams.
